Mission Visit and Weekend Essentials

I can successfully say I’ve done a good amount of touristing (I’m determined to make that a word) on this trip to San Francisco, from my trip to Berkeley to wandering Hayes Valley and the Mission with friends. Yesterday Lauren and I did a little jaunt through the Mission. It’s a really cool neighborhood and within walking distance of Patrick’s house, so it worked out. Plus there’s great food, and I’m a girl who likes my food.

I’m off to a cousin’s wedding this weekend and I’m so excited to see family that I haven’t seen in a while. Should be a good end to a great west coast trip. I leave you with my weekend essentials.

A roundup of weekend essentials

Watch

Breaking Bad. I just started watching it and I’m hooked. The premise for those who have been living under a rock for a few years like me? High school chemistry teacher starts cooking meth, shenanigans ensue.

Read

If you’ve gotten your fix of fiction this summer, dive into some engrossing non-fiction. Sports lovers check out The Boys of Summer by Roger Kahn, a great book about the 50’s Brooklyn Dodgers. If you’re looking for some inspiring, “save the world” non-fiction try Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder. If the mob is more your scene, try Black Mass by Dick Lehr, a book about the Irish mob in Boston. I haven’t read it, but it’s been highly recommended to me.

Eat

Something nice and refreshing. This cucumber quinoa salad is a delicious side for a hot summer day.

Do

Happen to be in Rhode Island this weekend? Have access to a boat? Check out the Newport Folk Festival from the water. The actual festival has been sold out for a while, so if you’re lucky enough to have tickets that’s even better. But the lineup looks great and there’s nothing like spending a day by (or on) the water listening to good music.

Lust

Call me crazy but I’m absolutely in love with this sass & bride jacket. It’s bright and, yes I’m going there, sassy.

Have a great weekend!
